Locations and data centre infrastructure
The main site in Hüllhorst covers more than 22,000 m² of total space, including over 8,000 m² of data centre capacity. Around 4,000 m² are dedicated exclusively to IT infrastructure and distributed across two levels. A continuous raised floor supports structured cabling, optimised airflow and professional rack deployment. Critical building systems such as backup power and cooling are designed so that maintenance can be carried out from outside the data hall without entering the server areas. In addition, early leak detection systems continuously monitor the infrastructure. This setup is complemented by further sites in Düsseldorf (DE) as well as Frauenfeld and Seuzach (CH).
Physical security and access control
Access to the data centres is strictly controlled and reserved exclusively for authorised personnel. Multi-level electronic access systems, continuous video surveillance, as well as alarm and intrusion detection systems ensure end-to-end protection. During daytime operations, trained specialists are on site, while professional security services take over monitoring at night. All systems are permanently connected to external security control centres and the in-house on-call team.
Fire protection and risk prevention
The fire protection concept is based on clearly separated fire zones and highly sensitive early fire detection systems that can identify even the smallest smoke particles. The fire alarm system is connected directly to the control centre of the local fire brigade, which is located nearby. Residue-free gas extinguishing systems enable rapid fire suppression without damaging the IT systems.
Power supply and high availability
TERRA CLOUD’s power supply is fully redundant by design. The foundation is built on multiple independent feeds, eight active transformers and a direct connection to a substation. In an emergency, six diesel generators with sufficient fuel reserves – including more than 100,000 litres of special diesel – provide autonomous operation for up to one week. Regular black-building and emergency power tests ensure ongoing operational readiness. Within the data centre, separate UPS paths and redundant busbar systems provide uninterrupted power supply, even during maintenance work.
Cooling and energy efficiency
A highly available, redundantly designed cooling system ensures stable temperature and humidity levels, even at full load. A large share of the cooling capacity is delivered through free-air cooling, supported by efficient mixed and compressor-based operating modes during warmer periods. The overall concept is designed for the data centre’s full expansion stage and is additionally safeguarded by an on-site spare parts warehouse.
Network and external connectivity
The network infrastructure is clearly segmented: customer environments run in a dedicated production network, while management, monitoring and administration are handled through a strictly separate internal network. External connectivity is designed with multiple redundancies and without cross-dependencies. Three independent carriers provide high-performance fibre connections, complemented by dark fibre routes and a direct connection to DE-CIX. The feeds enter the building from different sides to ensure maximum resilience.
Data protection and compliance
By operating exclusively in Germany and Switzerland, the platform meets the highest European data protection standards. TERRA CLOUD is certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022. The certification covers development, operations, support and data centre services, confirming an established and continuously enhanced information security management system. For customers, this means a high level of compliance, particularly with regard to GDPR and regulatory requirements.
Sustainability and green IT
Sustainability is an integral part of the cloud strategy. A large-scale 8,000 m² photovoltaic system covers a significant share of in-house demand, while the overall share of green electricity is around 90 percent. Energy-efficient airflow management, hot aisle containment and free-air cooling further reduce consumption. Surplus energy is fed back into the public grid, while decommissioned server systems are reused for less critical workloads after their primary lifecycle.
Operations, support and processes
A central ticketing system ensures that requests, incidents and changes are handled transparently and traceably. Clear processes, defined escalation paths and fast response times support stable 24/7 operations. More than 100 qualified employees across specialised teams run the platform. Some specialists are available directly on site. Many employees were trained within the company itself and stand for continuity, accountability and reliability.
A holistic security approach
TERRA CLOUD combines physical security, technical high availability and operational excellence into one integrated end-to-end concept. In-house data centres, in-house hardware and in-house staff enable full control across the entire value chain. With thousands of partners, tens of thousands of business end customers and a large number of productive cloud systems, TERRA CLOUD ranks among the established and most capable cloud platforms for the German SME market.
Future readiness and scalability
TERRA CLOUD is built for long-term growth and flexible usage. Infrastructure expansion is fully self-financed and independent of external investors. As its own server and hardware manufacturer, WORTMANN AG has direct influence over the systems in use and their ongoing development. New technologies can be integrated in a targeted way, while dependencies on third-party providers are reduced. The modular architecture enables demand-based scaling and provides a stable, future-proof foundation for modern IT strategies.
